Edinburgh Open Water Swimming Festival
The festival will be based at Portobello Beach, which is a long sandy beach located a few kilometres East of downtown Edinburgh and is easily accessible by bus, bike, and car. Many groups regularly swim in the sea during the warmer months and the beach bustles with people and activity on a sunny day.
The open water swimming festival comprises 3 separate swims in the sea. The longest swim and most challenging event is a 2-kilometer sea swim from Musselburgh Quay to Portobello Beach. The second swim will be a 400 metre sprint swim which will consist of a loop swim off of Portobello beach. The third will be a medium-distance swim consisting of 2 of the above loops, for a total of 800 metres. All courses will be marked out by big yellow buoys, and there will be safety boats ensuring all participants are safe in the water.
Wetsuits are compulsory and may be hired from The Tri Centre.
**All participants will have the option of doing 2 races throughout the morning. If you sign up for the 2k swim, you may also do the 400m swim at NO EXTRA COST. Participants choosing the 400m swim or 800m swim as their main race may swim in the 800m or 400m events at NO EXTRA COST. You may decide on the day of if you would like to participate in a second race beyond the one you register online for.**
The festival will also feature complimentary food for all participants on Portobello beach.
The event will be based around Portobello Beach and at The Dalriada, Edinburgh's 'Bar on the Beach', located along the seaside promenade near Brunstane road. Registration will open at 10am the morning of the festival.

Approximate timetable for the day:
10am: Registration opens at Portobello beach/Dalriada
11:15am: Start of 400m swim, Portobello beach
12:00pm: Transport to race start in Musselburgh
12:30pm: Start of 800m swim, Portobello beach
12:30pm: Start of 2k swim, Musselburgh
1:00pm: start of food for athletes & friends
1:30pm: Prize-giving on Portobello beach
