IN THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES, WHO WILL RULE THE POOL?
Aqua Sphere, the leader in high-end innovative swim products which promise comfort and long-lasting performance, is daring all swimmers to test their own long-lasting capabilities and compete in a brand new men v women Swim Challenge. Pitching men against women to raise funds and awareness for breast and prostate cancer, the Swim Challenge ( www.swimchallenge.org ) is set to become the ultimate yardstick for who rules the pool in 2010 - men or women?
From April 1 until November 30th, swimmers of all abilities are invited to sign on to www.swimchallenge.org each day to log their hours (not their laps) in the water. Whether they like it smooth or rough, on their backs or their stomachs – it’s not the stroke that matters but who will outlast the competition in terms of time spent in the water.
The Swim Challenge website will track the total times of men vs. women via a “leader meter” posted on the website and created as a widget so that competitors can keep tabs on their counterparts. The site will also allow swimmers to individually track their personal progress in the pool, encouraging them to swim longer each day.
At the end of the Challenge, Aqua Sphere will divide a 25,000 EURO donation between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The amount allocated to each will be determined by the cumulative hours swum by each gender. Men will be swimming for the Prostrate Cancer Foundation and women for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
“Regardless of who clocks up the most time in the pool, both charities win in the end,” says Martin Newton, Sales & Marketing Manager, Aqua Sphere UK. “We’ve all been affected by cancer in some way or another but instead of simply writing a cheque we wanted to do something fun that would promote a healthy lifestyle as well as some healthy competition. We all know the benefits associated with swimming so if we can encourage more participation as a result of a spot of good natured gender warring, then all the better. So the only question remains.. who will outlast the competition? Men or women? We can't wait to find out! ”
